Be inspired today. Make a decision to live today as if it were your last. Leave no stone unturned. Take time to think of of others and how you may be helpful to them. Today is a gift, and we get to be present to the the Sunlight of the Spirit. Forgive those whom you hold grudges against and reach out to them with kindness and love. Be content with your present circumstances and look for the silver lining. How can we be helpful to all whom we come into contact with today? A simple prayer answers these questions. God, today I pray for knowledge of Your will for us and the Power to carry that out. Today, we have been given the ability to be of service to God and those around us. Why shouldn’t we smile? Why should we not take time to give thanks? All we have is today! Prayer and meditation have been instrumental in my own recovery. This simple action has enabled me to be still and enjoy each moment throughout the day. I have found it helpful to start the day with a reading that gives me specific directions on how to live today to the fullest. One book tells me, “On awakening let us think about the twenty-four hours ahead. We consider our plans for the day. Before we begin, we ask God to direct our thinking, especially asking that it be divorced from self-pity, dishonest or self-seeking motives. Under these conditions we can employ our mental faculties with assurance, for after all God gave us brains to use.” (Excerpt From: AA World Services, Inc. “Alcoholics Anonymous.” AA World Services, Inc.)
Thank God for simple directions. Thank You for the men and women who came before us. Thank You for allowing recovery to be easily accessible to those who are willing to surrender. Thank You for our past. Allow us to use our past to help others know that recovery is possible. Let us remain willing, honest, and open minded today. Thank You God for doing for us what seemed impossible. For allowing us to recover and reach out to those who are still suffering. Amen
