Strategy for Quitting

boredom and substance abuse

Are you an alcoholic and drug addict? The question plagues some; those of us who use drugs and alcohol so much that they question the meaning of their very lives. The answer is simple. Ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you obsess about drinking like a “normal person”, or when you start drinking or using, do you focus on trying to control the amount that you use, to no avail? If so, you may be suffering from the disease of alcoholism and drug addiction, and the only remedy may be that you must have a psychic change as the result of a spiritual awakening. But how does that happen? How do you quit for good? The answer is that you must work a program built around the principles of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, as it is outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous.

The Big Book lays out a very specific program of action that is centered around the 12 Steps, and is meant to be suggestive in nature. If you arrive at the conclusion that you have a problem with drugs and alcohol, it may be in your best interest to read the Big Book. It may change your life.

In the Big Book, you are instructed to admit that you have arrived at a state of powerlessness over drugs and alcohol, and that your life has become completely unmanageable. This is the foundation for a program of recovery. If you want to quit for good, you have to arrive at this conclusion, and it may take having an experience with misery to get there. After drawing the conclusion that you have no power over your addiction, you must seek another power to help rid you of your addiction, commonly referred to as a higher power. You place your faith and trust in this power, that it may rid you of your need to use drugs and alcohol, and give your will and your life over to something that you don’t understand to help you. The rest is action based. Between doing inventory, clearing out your resentments, making amends, practicing prayer and meditation, and helping others, the recipe for getting sober is clearly laid out in a path that is not easy, but simple.

Are you an alcoholic and addict? If so, the answer is simple. Follow the steps outlined in the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous, and you will experience the kind of freedom that you can scarcely imagine. There are 150 promises in the big book spelling out how your life can change if you are only willing enough, and honest enough, to participate in this simple, yet effective program. These are the steps needed to have a spiritual awakening, which will certainly result in a psychic change, and will transform your life for the better. These are the steps to quitting drinking and using drugs forever, and with complete abstinence and a solid program, you can experience the kind of liberty you had once forgotten in the midst of your addiction.
